Unlimited access to EDA software licenses on-demand

Through cloud integration platforms, organizations can utilize automation tools to help connect various applications regardless of their environment. Cloud integration platforms allow for a centralized console to govern cloud-based applications. These applications help scale performance needs, add product functionality, and secure data and application integration.

This post will answer the question: What is cloud integration, and how can it benefit your business?

What Is Cloud Integration?

At its core, cloud integration combines multiple environments to help them operate as a single, cohesive infrastructure. Cloud integration can occur in a hybrid method or within multiple public clouds. Many enterprises utilize cloud integration to support real-time applications, automate capabilities for front-end platforms, and increase deployment and scalability capabilities.

Cloud integration is essentially a solution to prevent software silos'. It provides administrators with a system of tools that can control environments, applications, and systems in real-time. With cloud integration, you can control and access previously inaccessible information and data to streamline workflows and enhance visibility.

The Rocky Road of Transitioning to Cloud Integration

You must standardize integration for all use cases involving data transfer and applications. This step is particularly crucial for large batches of data.

Utilizing the cloud can open up a myriad of options for enterprises, but aspects of integration can be tricky. Companies with pre-built legacy software can occasionally have a difficult time integrating. Additionally, companies might need to overcome technical challenges and functionality issues when setting up their infrastructure.

Ideally, the transition should be smooth, with little to no downtime and few disruptions. A successful transition, though, requires preparation. For example, high-speed connectivity should mirror services during the switch even with the addition of new data. Designing the perfect architecture for your organization depends on your structure, operations, and goals.

In general, it is wise to keep especially sensitive data that requires sudden access on-premises. On the other hand, high-volume data that many individuals must access should stay on public clouds.

Integration time can vary as well. Some tasks, such as automatic synchronization, occur quickly, but if a human needs to help the process along, it may take multiple days.

Types of Integration and Methods

Integration in the cloud can involve cloud-to-cloud integration, cloud-to-local integration, or a hybrid of both.

When integrating, consider your intended use case. Data integration involves syncing your data between repositories. Data integration can transport, transform and process data during integration. On the other hand, application integration connects multiple applications and arranges them.

Cloud integration platforms often use an application-independent data format such as XML. Connectors will translate the application’s format to the independent format, execute conversation, and exchange data with the receiving application.

Cloud integration platforms generally utilize software modules to interact with applications known as adapters or connectors. A cloud integration platform can have a central interface that handles security, while various adapters accommodate the applications to be integrated. Meanwhile, the connector performs communications and notifications. Connectors can be application specific or use standard communication protocols such as SMTP, SOAP, APIs, or JCA.

Why Your Business Needs Cloud Integration

Cloud integration isn’t just for scaling resources or streamlining infrastructure. It can also increase collaboration and better communication within an organization.

Using a hybrid cloud allows for multiple hosting and storage options, which is convenient for data communication, management, and analytics between individuals.

Cloud integration also allows organizations to connect disparate systems through flexibility in data storage, sharing, and accessing. The scalability of cloud integration allows you to quickly make changes and combine cloud applications with on-premises systems. You can more easily access data with higher visibility and improved functional connectivity.

By breaking down data silos, cloud integration  optimizes business processes, including:

  • Faster time-to-market
  • Stronger inter-organizational communication
  • Improved customer support
  • Strengthened competitive edge
  • Reduced operational costs
  • Increased revenue

Successful cloud integration requires careful planning. If your organization lacks the necessary in-house skills, work with a trusted external organization to help build your workflow environment.
